About djUnconventionality is what makes "THE SHOW" On ATL's community-based radio station WRFG 89.3 an early morning hit. "We play underground hip-hop, all of the stuff you wouldn’t get at a commercial radio," say DJ Majestik, the shows host. Even if I have to stay at home and clean up the dirtiest song in the world I would do that." Majestik's M.O. can be traced back to the opportunities and experiences afforded him in his childhood. Born and raised in the Bronx, Majestik's father and uncle owned a club in New York where the pioneering DJ Hollywood worked. Hollywood's spinning, as well as the turntablism of Grandmaster Flash and Grand Wizard Theodore, greatly influenced the young hip-hopper. "I stayed in the window for like 10 hours just looking down in the park, hearing what’s going on," Majestik says. "Like I can’t believe these fools are doing that with some turntables." Becoming DJ on "Casual Conversations," (Now Called The Show) heard every "Twednesday" (Tuesday Night/Wednesday Morning from 3:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. and Wednesday 12-3 a.m.), happened about 2 years ago when his guest DJ gig turned into a permanent spot. This early break came through a high school friend. "He was like 'Yo my uncle said he will give you such amount of money [to] bring your equipment over. We'll hook it up to the stereo and we'll have a party," Majestik says. "From there it was on." Beyond his radio time, DJ Majestik continues to exhibit growth in his DJ skills by working with local and major artists (including Professor Griff, the 7th Octave band, Ray Lavender Konvict Muzik and, The Outlaws), opening concerts, hosting parties and making mix tapes (The underground Railroad for the hip-hop joints and Mellow Madness for R&B). For DJ Majestik, the formula for his success comes easy. "If you can be involved in something that you love," he says, "you give it your all."
